Who we are.

hard. is a UK hair wellness brand. For the purposes of UK data protection law, hard. is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

If you have a question about your information, email hello@itsnothard.co.uk.

What we collect.

When you join early access

We collect your email address, the date and source of your signup, and any campaign information attached to the link you used, such as a campaign name or advertising source.

When you use the Water Check

We use the postcode you enter to produce a local water reading. The full postcode is used for the check and then discarded. We do not include your full postcode in analytics or save it to your hard. marketing profile.

If you choose to join early access after receiving a reading, we may save your postcode district, water-hardness band, reading source, whether you checked more than one area, and any optional answers you give us. This helps us understand which information and products are most relevant to you.

No email is required to check your water.

You only join marketing when you actively submit your email address.

When you visit the website

Our hosting provider may process technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, requested pages and the time of your visit.

The Water Check may use browser storage on your device to keep a submitted signup record and make the experience work consistently. You can clear this through your browser settings.

How we use it.

We use personal information to:

  • provide the Water Check you request;
  • manage the hard. early-access list;
  • send launch news, product updates and offers when you have asked to receive them;
  • understand how people find and use the site;
  • improve our content, products and customer experience; and
  • protect the site, prevent misuse and comply with legal obligations.

We rely on your consent for email marketing. You can withdraw that consent at any time by selecting the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting us.

We rely on our legitimate interests when we operate and secure the website, respond to you, understand aggregate site use and improve hard., provided those interests do not override your rights. We rely on legal obligations where the law requires us to retain or disclose information.

You do not have to provide your email address. If you do not, you can still use the Water Check but you will not receive early-access emails.

We do not use your information to make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Who we share it with.

We use carefully selected suppliers to operate the site and communicate with you:

  • Klaviyo, which manages our email list and marketing messages;
  • Netlify, which hosts and secures the website; and
  • professional advisers, regulators or authorities where this is necessary to comply with the law or protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information.

Some suppliers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, we require an appropriate legal safeguard, such as a UK adequacy regulation or approved contractual protections.

How long we keep it.

We keep marketing information while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we may retain the minimum information needed on a suppression list so that we respect your choice and do not contact you again.

We keep other personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose described in this policy, to resolve a query, protect the site or meet a legal requirement. We then delete or anonymise it.

Information held in browser storage remains on your device until it is cleared by you, your browser or the site.

Your rights.

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to ask us to:

  • give you a copy of your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • delete your information;
  • restrict or object to how we use it; or
  • provide certain information in a portable format.

You have an absolute right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing. You can also withdraw marketing consent at any time. The easiest way is to use the unsubscribe link in any hard. email.

To exercise a right, email hello@itsnothard.co.uk. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK data protection regulator.

If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will bring it to your attention where required.
